When I talk to a company, a photographer, or a designer about a project, they always say, “Hey, I’m a photographer, and I know this photo.” And I really don’t like to be told why I should or can do it. But sometimes when I think about this image, I think about what would be better for the project.
Im not saying everyone is a photographer, but I’m guessing a lot of them are, and you can’t always tell just by looking at them. It’s not important that you like the project, or that you’re a photog, but I think that if you are, that’s a good thing. But if Im not, that’s a problem.
I know I’m not that great at it, and I’m sure someone can tell you who is, but I think it’s important to realize that in many projects, you will need to spend hours on things that you yourself never did. For instance, imagine a photo shoot where you have to pay someone to be the subject. Now imagine that this person is not a professional photographer, so you have to pay them to do the actual photography.
So my recommendation is to hire a professional photographer to do the shooting, but not to hire a professional photographer.
If you are going to hire a professional photographer, ask the photographer if they have any experience with the topic. If they don’t, then hire them anyway. If you hire someone to do the photography, and they are not a professional photographer, hire them anyway. If you hire a professional photographer, then you have to have something in mind as a base for the shooting. Otherwise, you might end up paying for something your photographer couldn’t actually do.
Image consulting is an art and art form itself. It is an art and art form that is often overlooked and not well understood. If you are a photographer, you’ll get a lot more out of your photography, and your company will benefit for it. However, if you are a software engineer, you’ll get more out of your software, and you’re actually going to save your company a lot of money.
