I’ve been writing a lot about the topic “Why are there so many different kinds of Jews?” in some of my columns in the past few years, and I’m continuing to do so with this post.
I’ve written the entire post with a few of the three main themes. In a couple of cases you just need to be aware of them, and be able to explain how these themes come together.
The first is that Jews are not monolithic. The second is that we are not monolithic and we dont all want to be. In fact there are many different kinds of Jews. The first is to be a Jew. The second is to be a Jew in Israel. The third, and probably the most important, is to be a Jew living in America. I have a ton of pictures of different types of Jews and the types of people they represent.
One of the most poignant images I’ve seen from Israel is the sign of the Star of David in the Old City. I’ve seen this before, but it was just a sign and now there are dozens and dozens of stars. And I know that this comes from a Star of David in the Old City, but I still don’t know. But there is a Star of David in the Old City and it is a sign of the State of Israel, and that is a very positive thing.
It’s the same in Israel. There are Jews that are very proud of their nationality. On one hand, this means a lot of people are proud of being Jewish, but on the other hand it also means that lots of people are very proud of being Israeli.
This is the sort of thing that always amazes me. All of the signs (stars, flags, etc.) are not necessarily religious in origin. But what matters is the symbol itself, not the religion or the religious symbolism.
The word ‘believer’ is used to describe the person that’s with the least of fanfare. But this is really a very negative word for a person who’s just got an “I’ve got the same faith” attitude.
But the name “believer” is used in a broad sense to denote someone who has a big, strong, and/or large fan. It’s actually a very good way to describe them. And yes, that’s a good way to describe a person’s faith attitude. In the case of the Jewish people, you often get to choose one of two things.
The first option is to choose a God of your choosing. And the second option is to choose the religion that you believe in. But you can’t say a person is a believer or a religious person. The word belief is used to describe someone that is following a religious path. But the word is not used to describe a person that is following the path of a religion.
